Heart for a Hero

Hello everyone~

I thought all the gamers (or whoever reads this stupid thing...^_^;;; ) would get a kick out of this:
http://kotaku.com/gaming/i-can.t-talk%2C-don.t-ask-me/clip-zelda-heart-for-the-hero-271709.php

While this is a brilliant take on the 'silent hero' bit, it makes you wonder why. Why are they mute? And why are they all so damn lovable? Link, Chrono (Chrono Trigger, for all you old-skoolerz), even Dr. Gordon Freeman (Half Life). They're all such memorable, iconic characters - yet none of them have spoken a single word.

Any thoughts? :)

Enjoy!

Extra Taggege

Hello, dears....

I have been tagged. Basically, I say seven random facts about myself. I don't talk about myself that much (at least I hope I don't!), so here goes:

1) I have vices and guilty pleasures just like everyone else, and mine are unfortunatly....really, really girly. :P I absolutly adore America's/Canada's Next Top Model, and I firmly believe that Tyra Banks should be the president of the United States. :)

2) I owned a hedgehog for almost two years. His name was Sonic (after my childhood hero...^_^), which was funny because he was fat and MEAN as hell. :3

3) I get so scared at some movies and games (like Silent Hill 4) that they make me cry.

4) My absolute, most favouritist pizza in the whole wide world is: prawns, goat cheese, and sundried tomatoes with pesto (preferrably homemade) on a whole-wheat crust. Yum! :P

5) I am part of the first 'female-only' Dungeons & Dragons group in.....probably the city. :3

6) One time, a rent-a-cop mistook me for a hooker when I was waiting for my ride home from work. I was still in my Famous Players uniform. o_O;;;

7) I took Aikido for a year when I was seventeen. Now, I'm in bellydancing, of all things. ^_^

Well, I'm not sure if I did that right, but...there you go! Little-known facts about me! I'm not terribly exciting, though. Sorry! ;P
Also, I want to mention that music I'm totally diggin' is a band called Avenged Sevenfold. I don't usually do....uh, "rock," but these guys are awesome! I recommend Strength of the World and the Beast and the Harlot. Great songs. Super hardcore. :3

Bye, all~
Back to work!

It's Been Awhile....

Hello, ladies and gents.

Yoikes....sorry it's been so long since I've blogged....been a busy couple of...weeks? I don't even know anymore. :P

Hmm....still waiting for Loreena McKennitt photos...gotta ask Laurel about that.

Working my butt off to finish this episode on time....

Hmm....good news! George has gone live!!
Check out everyone's favourite King of the Jungle here on 'The Lab'....Mr. Kevin Gamble was the guy who hired me. :3
http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-3973719481637047088&q=the+Lab+-+flash

I'm sick right now....bleh. I really should've stayed home today...but work beckons...! ^_^;;;

Hmmmm....nothing really exciting other than that. I need some sleep and Tylenol.

Ha ha ha ha....ah.

Meet me at the Caravanserai

I was a bad girl...I took Friday off to go to lovely Victoria to see one of the single most influential musicians in my life...

Ladies and gentlemen...Loreena McKennitt.

It was such an amazing experience, and having Laurel there to share it with me meant so much more.
Even with the Greyhound strike, Pacific Coach Lines (the bus route we took) was great. The entire traveling portion of the trip went without a single hitch....the bus left on time, rolled onto the ferry, got off, and dropped us in Victoria.
The downtown core was stunning, to say the least...(Don't worry, Laurel got tons of photos. :D ) We got to Keith's place no problem (Dad, I don't know what you're talking about....Keith's place is in a fine neighbourhood!), unloaded our stuff, took a nap, then headed out.
We went to this awesome Irish pub before the concert to grab something to eat...what a place! The building was gorgeous, and the food and the atmosphere were great! They had live Celtic music downstairs! How cool is that?!
Afterwards, we walked a few blocks to the 'McPherson theatre.' I kept on telling Laurel that this really didn't look like the right area...it was kinda dumpy for a theatre. So, we went inside to ask the guy, and he was like "Oh, Loreena McKennitt! She's at the Royal McPherson Theatre!"
....So, after walking about eight blocks (my first time in stiletto heels, by the way...ow.), we get to this theatre that is literally a castle. It was just stunningly beautiful.
We get inside, take our seats, and realize that we drastically brought down the average age group of the entire theatre crowd..(everyone was at least 35-40+...it felt a bit odd.) But, she came on, playing the harp, and opening up with She Moved Through the Fair. I warned Laurel beforehand, but I just couldn't help the tears that ran down my face....I was just so happy to be able to see this. Not to mention that the seats I bought were in the second row - we were so close, we could see the crow's feet near her eyes, and every smile she gave.
She was a breathtaking performance, and so multi-talented - in that single night, she effortlessly switched between the harp, piano and acordian, and I'm sure she can play more. It was great though...it was obvious that she really cared for the people she played with, and they adored her in return.
The whole experience was like something out of a dream....I still can't believe it happened. ^_^

Needless to say, we got back okay....tired, but okay (we got up at 6 am in order to get back at around 10:30). I'm going to write Keith a very nice thank you note...I don't think it's appropriate to give him a twenty. :D

Anyhoo, it was perfect in every way. I had lots of fun, and I would do it all again in an instant. :D
Photos will come up hopefully soon when I grab them from Lo.

All the best,
Cady

Good Idea, Bad Idea

Blah...

Maybe watching seven straight hours of cycle one of America's Next Top Model after realizing you've gained 14 pounds isn't the best idea.

I can say I'm regretting watching eight of the most beautiful women in America parade around and effortlessly look stunning while I'm feeling....less than optimistic about my current body image.

Blah I say.

Magically Delicious

Hello~

One thing I have to say about gaming is that I love finding little....well, 'gems,' if you will. Games that no one would give a second glance that turn out to be incredibly enjoyable, and, if you're lucky, it'll become a 'sleeper hit' (which are about 80% of game titles I play...;___;).
The game in question would be Magical Starsign for the Nintendo DS. I was still working at EB when it came out, and quickly faded away, never to be spoken of again.

(Sorry if this stupid thing got published...Flash shortcuts are now embedded into my brain.)

Anyways, as I was saying, Magical Starsign came out in...oh, about January 2007.
The story revolves around a group of students at the 'Will-o-Wisp Academy of Magic' on the planet Kovomaka. Now, on a funny design note, all the planets that you visit (yes, you visit planets on a spaceship ^_^ ) all look like giant, themed, floating islands in space. *_*
My first impression playing this game was Harry Potter meets the Winx Club meets crazy space travel. You choose your main character (m/f; I of course, choose the girl), then you have your crazy, themed, elemental group of friends and fellow classmates:
Lassi: A wind magic user. She's a frumpy little, long-eared bunny girl. Kinda flakey, but really a sweet girl.
Mokka: An earth magic-using robot. *_* Mokka is, of course, the cold, calculating, sensible one.
Chai: An anthropomorphic, forest-magic-using salamander. Chai's a nice kid, bringing the 'organic' side to Mokka's more dispassionate nature.
Pico: A hot-headed, redhead fire magic weilder (who didn't see that coming?). Pico is your stereotypical adolesant male. He also likes Sorbet, but he's still in the 'girls are kinda gross stage' of his life. :3 So cute.
Sorbet: A water magic user, and the last friend you wrangle up. She's a nice girl, although a little dramatic for my taste.

At first, I complained that there was no chance for you to get to know the characters seperatly; you all start out in school. Then I found other things to complain about - the controls, the beginning story, etc.
But, I continued playing. Everyone gets seperated, so you get a lot more one-on-one time with the different characters, getting to know them.
The plot, although light-hearted, is actually a lot more mature than I thought. Through the kiddy facade lies an intricate plot, with a surprising amount of death and emotional anguish. The game also constantly pokes fun at itself, which is always something to appreciate.
Once I got past the controls and what-not, I took a look at the battle system. It's turn-based, which I like a lot more than real-time, but with the different planets going into their 'power zones', AND the constant day-night cycle (you have light magic), either you or your opponents get stronger.
All in all, I'm 17 hours in, and I'm having a blast. Considering I picked it up used for $14.99, this was one helluva buy. I highly recommend it. :D

An Exciting Oppurtunity

Interesting times ahead, huh?

There's going to be a lot going on this coming week....
1) - Hopefully, I'll find out if I'm going to have work after this show....If not, well....I'm boned. Not to mention that if I do actually get this show, I need to ask if I can take 2 1/2 weeks off in November because...
2) I'm going to Israel!! Wowee!! I need to grab myself a Canadian passport (oohh...lineups...*sob*), but it'll be so cool! I'm going along with my two roommates, one of whom is an Israeli. Considering the most exotic place I've been to is the USA, I'm really looking forward to it. Besides, we'd go when they have their...uh.."winter" (being Canadian, I use the term loosely), where it will be a chilly 25 degrees. :D
Mind you, I haven't lived through a real Canadian winter....a friend of mine from Calgary said it can get to be -60 with windchill. EEK. o_O;;
3) ....And speaking of my Israeli roomie, her birthday is coming up on Tuesday. ^_^ Happy Birthday, grandma! :P Ha ha ha ha....

Well, I'll keep everyone updated with what's going on....Well, whoever reads this thing, anyways...*sigh*
Keep well, everyone, and let's hope spring actually arrives. I think it's cab is lost.

Just a quickie~

Hello, kind citizens~ :P

Just a quick little blurb...I'm at work right now. Honestly, I love what I do. Again, how many people can say they make cartoons for a living?
The reality is, that while I adore what I do, it is hard work. I've seen people cringe (literally) when I tell them that I started on GTJ. Oh well....trial by fire. At least I'll learn lots. :D
Speaking of jobs, I also have an animation test for the second season of Pucca on Saturday...I'm wondering if my poor computer can run it...! Wish me luck!
Again speaking of jobs....*sigh* I'm so sure I didn't get that mapping job for Looking for Group. I haven't heard anything about it, but I'm sure there are a million more people who are much better than I am. :( Go fig.
One o' those weeks....

Geekin' out with style

Shout out to all you fellow gamers!

Recently, the art show exhibit called I am 8-Bit recently showed down in California....at least, I think it was CA.
Anyhoo, here's a link (thank you to Geekology www.geekology.com ). There's also a book availible; one of my friends owns it (you know who you are! ^_~ ). The stuff is kind of creepy at times, but they're really cool ideas, and it's nice to see what can be created out of the love and inspiration from retro video games.
Enjoy!

http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-exhibit/

Now, all they need is a 16-bit art show....mmm.....Sonic the Hedgehog....lol

Watch out for that tree

Hello, dears.

My, my, my....it's been a busy couple of weeks for all of us, hasn't it? Whether it's final film, class, work, animating, or production coordinators quitting, everyone's got their hands full.
It's great - spring, I think, has literally exploded all over BC.
Well, the West Coast, anyways.
It's warming up quite nicely, and flowers and buds are growing...it's beautiful. And, and, I'll actually get to see it!! Hah! No more cooped up in a classroom for me! Now, I'm just...cooped up..in...an office.
*sigh*
Ah well. How many offices do you know that make fucking cartoons?
Not many, I would imagine. :D
And really - how many people can honestly say they love their job? I would say maybe the same amount of people.

Well, I'm keeping busy...I have, to this date, animated 5.18 seconds. Sadly, that's more than I made in about two weekends at my old job. Woo hoo!
Hmmm.....what else....
Now that I have full-time work like any other adult human being, I'm trying to find things to occupy my weekends and weeknights. Bellydancing is one of them...the teacher, God, she's so ninja - I need to catch her to buy my pass so I can go. :P Frustrating.
There's also a great webcomic I'm reading: www.lfg.com ....I'm not a huge WoW fan (World of Warcraft, for the not-so-game-savvy), but it's a really fun story, with really nice character designs...his expressions are amazing. They've just posted that their looking for an artist, but one who specializes in maps. I can do maps, but I certainly don't specialize in them....wah. The cool thing is that the comic is produced by Blind Ferrett Studios, located in Montreal. I've seen some of their stuff, and they do a lot of animated versions of already-exsisting webcomics. I'd love to do some freelance for them one day....^_^

Well, that's about all I've got now...I've got some art to post, but my roomie's scanner - well, her computer is having a bit of a....situation right now, so they'll have to wait. ;___;

Best to all, stay creative,
and
GO CANUCKS GO!!! XD

Attention All Poor Animators!

Music World (or at least the one at Lougheed Town Center in Burnaby) has a bargain bin filled with animation!
Well, okay, not so much filled, but today I found two dvds from somebody called 'Quality Cartoons.' The two dvds they put out were Superman Forever and Classic Cartoons: More Fun.
The Superman one is the (first?) eight episodes of the original Fleischer bros. fame, while the Classic Cartoons has sixteen different classic shorts from all walks of life. Characters include Woody Woodpecker, Mighty Mouse, Baby Huey, and a handful of shorts under 'Adventure Tales' - including the famed Dover Boys at Pimento University.
The best part? These dvds are only $4.99!
I picked up both...I mean, this is quality archival animation, here!
Have fun shopping!
